Happy Tuesday ladies! Have you tuned in to view Girl Boss via Netflix? TFF MAG had a chance to binge watch the whole series and give a review on what we thought about the content of the show. Let's start with the good things first shall we?
VINTAGE!!! Vintage, vintage and more vintage. The fashion in this series was nothing short of amazing. From leather bomber jackets to pencil skirts and all things retro, the wardrobe in this series was impressive to say the least.
Another great thing about the series was the fact that it shed light on what it actually means to step out on faith. At one point during the series, Sofia (pictured above) was literally eating out of trash to survive. Granted half of the reason for the turmoil in her life was her poor attitude and incapacity to maintain a job but that's neither here nor there. The girl hustled her ass off to get where she is and that is something to celebrate.
The dialogue in the show was a bit choppy but decent. The secondary characters were fun and their story lines were just as interesting as Sofia's which was refreshing. Watching Sofia build her brand from the ground up was entertaining to say the least.
Now let's get to the meat and potatoes of the post. Sofia's character was a complete asshole for lack of better words. She was self centered, entitled, rude, irresponsible, and just overall kind of a horrible person to have to be around. We get it; you're young and want to sit at home and eat pizza all day while posting shit on Ebay to make money. Who doesn't want that life? It was hard to feel bad for someone who's attitude was so terrible. Not to mention majority of the "bad luck" she stumbled into was because she made bad decisions and couldn't keep a job.
Sofia definitely lived her life in a way that screams "privilege". Thinking things should be handed to her, buckling under any real kind of pressure, and having child like tantrums whenever something didn't go her way. Not to mention she was a thief. Her vile personality literally made the show itself hard to watch.
With that being said, overall we'll give it a six for having great wardrobe. After hearing how much people enjoyed the book, it was disappointing to see the show itself miss the mark. All we can do is hope the book is better than the series. Kudos to Sofia for parlaying her drama into a brand, a book and a show.
